Summer Lovin: Breakaways

Did you think we were getting soft on you? With all this talk of love and romance, we can’t ignore the other side of coin – the breakaway. A breakaway is not really a break up, because you weren’t together to begin with, but its equally important to master.

If there is one thing I know with certainty, hanging around with the wrong people leaves no room for the right ones. So, how do you managing crowding in your summer romances?

Direct Sunshine – A phone call or text along the lines of “Thank you for having me. It’s been lovely, but its time for me to move on as something is missing between us, and we both deserve to find what we are looking for.”

Made in the Shade – A series of shady blow-offs, forgotten dates, last minute cancellations and the such, ultimately resulting in them breaking it off with you.

The Long Fade – Dragging out your disappearance. Mildly and pleasantly engaging in texts or phone calls with long periods of time in between, but not committing to any plans until eventually communication dies out.

Going Dark – A hard stop in all communication with no explanation aka il silencia.

Now, I would never advocate any one method over another, and have been known to run multiple strategies simultaneously. But I will say that once you initiate a breakaway strategy, you need to stick with it so the message is clear: Buh Bye.

Summer Lovin’: The Real Deal

The greatest thing to possibly grow from a summer romance is Real Deal Love: can’t breathe without you, live without you, want everything and more with you love.

This vintage photo of my grandparents at the beach exemplifies the love they share to this day. My grandfather, who is battling blood cancer, is fighting for his life using the power of the love he gives and receives from his wife and the beautiful family they have created together. To say it is mind blowing is an understatement. The timing of me being a part of this emotional tidal wave was equally relevatory.

As the summer set in and I walked away from yet another not-quite-right relationship, the influence of the power of Real Deal Love that I had seen this past spring was combined with what summer always promises in my heart:

“I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.”

I know better than anyone that summer lovin’ can be rough seas to sail. I have broken hearts and have had mine broken in varying degrees of severity, but like summer comes year after year, so does the chance for summer lovin’ to turn into Real Deal Love. If, of course, you are able to weather the storms… wellys and bikinis are sort of fabulous after all.

Summer Lovin’: Down n’ Dirty or Good Clean Fun

One of my favorite expressions is “There’s an ass for every saddle” - so tongue and cheek and yet SO TRUE! I really believe there is someone for everyone in this world and you need to find the perfect way to get down.

Summer offers endless opportunities to smooch at music festivals, on walks in the rain and there is still time to share a lolly pop on a ferris wheel wearing sparkling sandles.

Variety is the spice of life and summer lovin’ should be doused in it.

After all, there’s nothing like a nice hot shower to wash away a dirty day at the beach!

The Summer Lovin’ Holy Trinity: Glitter, Sunshine & Cocktails

With the sun above and a drink in your hand, there’s nothing like a little shine to round out exactly what you need to cook up some hot summer love.

Case study: you get invited to a glamorous getaway by a total dream boat, and this is not like an actual boat trip where you wear nothing but bikinis. (Hence the lack of wardrobe recap post-Bimini: I wore NOTHING I packed!) You need to be prepared for sure fire romance.

Glitter- in my experience, men like all animals, are attracted by a little bit of shine. Interpret that to your own style; a dusting a shimmery lotion, a swath of OMG, or the just-right splash of sparkle from the perfect pair of earrings. You can’t go wrong with that little dose of oomph to give you the extra alluring dash of confidence.

Sunshine- while you can’t control the weather, you can absolutely control your attitude. Summer adventures often bring unexpected snafus and there is nothing like a sunny disposition to set you up for success with your honey when plans go awry.

Cocktails- lets face it, there is nothing like clinking a glass of rose with your amore and a fabulous toast to set the stage for summer fun.

Hello Summer Lovin’!

This hot image of Richard Burton about to devour Liz Taylor recalls a similar memory of my own, and fresh off a glamorous getaway on a 90 ft yacht in Bimini, it’s oh so perfect to kick off the blog series inspired by a steamy summer!

Let’s start with a little lesson I learned the hard way:

Sometimes things are delicious just because you’re hungry.

I mean sure, every once in a while fast food tastes great. But you can’t live on it. You feed romance by choosing people who are delectable dishes and while we all have cravings in life, you can’t feast on people who are White Castle.

Especially during bikini season!

Hooptastic!!

It’s no secret I LOVE a hoop. And the excitement we’re hearing about all the new Electric Collection hoops proves that this a shared obsession!

I’m getting ready to pack for my upcoming adventure to Bimini and feeling SO inspired by the Spring / Summer Dolce & Gabbana collection, apparel AND accessories, so my vaca accessory style will be all about the hoop! You have to pack light for seafaring, so look-at-hoops are the perfect way to take your style to the max with out filling up your suitcase.

Thank God. Because I’m gonna need room for my travel hula hoop, too!

Cross My HEART, Hope to FLY

We have SO fallen off the blog wagon - SORRY!!! Sometimes, the roller coaster of every day can be so exhilarating, terrifying, and exhausting, it seems impossible to find the state of mind to let go and fly off the tracks. And then, like a switch flipping in an airplane, you just push through the pull of gravity and GO.

Someone shared some insight with me recently: People are either lift, thrust, drag, or pull. They can lift you up, thrust you forward, drag you back, or pull you down. Not only did I start using this criteria to assess the people in my life, I also started looking at myself & my influence to MY people, IRL and online!

Well we are SPRUNG with INSPIRATION to LIFT you up and THRUST you forward, and we PROMISE, to play it out on the blog!

I’m almost overwhelmed with excitement for what is going on style-wise this Spring, and we have been brainstorming a jet-set slew of content to fuel your style to infinite and beyond.
